CRITICS

The Lullaby is a stage study. Performing in this solo project Maria Katarzyna Gliwa robs her naked body in a black skirt and suggestive puts an old age on her young body. She's not giving herself away by a single move and tests an auditor to the limit by her stagnation and picture of infirmity. Her body is an individual souvenir, an archive of life, from where, one by one, memories emerge.
Aleksandra Czapla-Oslislo, Gazeta Wyborcza [Katowice, Poland]

You can hear a whistler of the air inhaled by spectators while from under cloth appears a terrifying mask presenting a hatchet face wry in pain, reminding an antic, Greek tragedy mask. A creature, that no longer seem to be a living woman but a dummy lifts up showing its shivering arms unnaturally bent backwards, and moves sliding (still backwards) towards the audience. Lifeless eyes "observe" spectators faces. Finally Maria Gliva turns around and takes off the mask. But this is not the end of this horrifying Lullaby. The lullaby that leads not to sleep, but do death. Further part of the performance continues ideas of laboratory of death. The subject-matter of this nearly silent monodrama are three "lady-friends" - disability, loneliness and old age. Facing them woman's body no longer is a temple of beauty, a sex object - it is just a decaying shield of a weary soul, a cemetery of memories of former splendour. The performance provokes to reflection of vanishing and torment of lonely old age - quite hackneyed topic, but still up-to-date and in this case presented in a very interesting manner. The performance is worth to recommend.
