Behind Enemy Lines

Outdoor Performance

The theme of the open-air theatrical action – happening BEHIND ENEMY LINES is war, or rather its social and emotional contexts: alienation, confusion, fear, a sense of injustice, savagery, destabilisation in the face of wartime chaos and a cascade of misfortunes. What will happen and how will the contemporary Polish viewer react when he encounters the war and its heroes-victims ‘live’ in real time, not ‘in theatre hall’ and not on the screen, but in the space of everyday routine?

The idea behind the play is simple. In a contemporary city far from the real front line of the wars taking place right before our eyes – or rather taking place on our TV, computer and smartphone screens (Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan) – ‘real’ soldiers appear. Tired, wounded, extracted from the turmoil of war, beyond space and time, transferred by the force of theatre from the front line into the comfortable, safe (for us, the audience) space of our everyday, consumer life.
