“Alice in Wonderland” is a performance by Teatr A Part carried out with the participation of adepts of Teatr A Part’s Acting Studio (the Warriors of Beauty), its structure and theme refers to the famous novel by Lewis Carroll, that is, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, the novel that is said to be – besides the Bible – most quoted book of all times. The performance by Teatr A Part and the Warriors of Beauty appeals to the book threads and Alice’s adventures – sometimes loosely, at times directly – putting them in modern and universal contxsts. The play also invokes the facts and myths about the inspiration and personal reasons behind the origin of the novel, known from the author’s biography, the biography of puritan pastor, professor of mathematics coming from the Victorian Era, who also happened to be a big fan of feminine charms and photography. Collage of the play’s motifs balances widely between naturalism and surrealism, brutalism and onirism, grotesque and horror.
“Alice in Wonderland”’ is site specific project, wherein each of the viewers individually travels lonely to the universe of the performance.
Theatrical experience for 1 spectator. Spectator participates in the show for about 35-40 minutes. During one cycle of presentations, the show visits 5-7 viewers at 15 minute intervals.

REVIEWS
There are thoughts that we, even in the worst nightmares, don’t ever consider to say out loud. How many times did we wander, embarrassed, in those contents of the subconscious, postponing the moment of the confrontation with what we regularly push there? Sometimes head turns out to be too heavy for the body, carrying it on daily basis seems to be an inhuman effort. Creating the image of reality that is regulated by the strict laws we established comes to the rescue at those times. Under this safety shell peeks Teatr A Part and Warriors of Beauty. One who expects a journey to the fairytale world of imagination will be disappointed after ,,Alice in Wonderland’’. We do go on a journey, but the land that we go to, lacks fairy magic since a long time. Theatre turns into the labyrinth that we enter accompanied by Alice. The protagonist welcomes us and instructs to follow the performers who present etudes in designated spaces. But after escaping the labyrinth it’s hard to actually say that Alice took as to the world of her fantasies. While lost in it, one rather has an impression of a universal metaphor of the human fate which is impossible to describe through categories such as reality or fantasy – the borders between them are blurred. It would be a shame to describe each of the etudes that the play consists of, because the power of ,,Alice in Wonderland’’ lies in the excitement that comes from the unpredictability of what awaits behind the corner. It’s enough to say that performers’ actions are inspired both by the book and author’s biography. Most of the actors’ action oscillates around sexuality – Alice exposes meanings known from the psychoanalytic interpretation of her fortune rather than from film adaptation of a book for children. The myths around the figure of Lewis Caroll are also being recalled – his alleged fancy for young girls and love towards Alice Liddell, the prototype of the book’s character. The potential of involving the viewer into the action has been fully used in ,,Alice’’. Even though most of the time the actors only let the viewers watch – the moments in which we get directly included are causing the strongest impressions, shaping the reception of the performance.

I don’t mean to spoil the performance that can only be a unique and singular experience ( its strength is individual and exceptional experience equal to psychological illumination – there is no need to repeat it to receive the therapeutic effect). Teatr A PART confirms with ,,Alice’’ all its previous obsessions, bellmerian origin ( spiritual and physical), critical ambitions and aesthetical and formal change – less big shows, more intimate stories, and on this change it only gains.
